Ringing in the New Year

As 2018 draws to an end, now is the time to plan how you want to ring in the new year. New Year’s Eve celebrations are best spent with loved ones reflecting on the past year, whether that is celebrating successes or moving on from challenges.  A new year means new beginnings and new opportunities to achieve your ambitions and goals.

Whether you’re looking for a small intimate gathering or a retro-inspired party, follow the advice below for a seamless way to ring in 2019.

Festive Decor Made Stylish

The traditional colour theme for this festive occasion are the shimmering hues of gold, black and silver. Think minimal, yet festive, when it comes to turning your home into a celebration space. Try using small hints of decor placed throughout the area, such as hanging balloons from the walls, and sprinkling confetti across the dining table. You can also incorporate fresh flower arrangements intertwined with fairy lights, creating holiday spirit.

Your local dollar store will be filled with NYE gear! Funky glasses, noisemakers and more! Pop some of these items into glass vases at the door or near your drink station for easy access for guests.

The Perfect Spread

The key to being a good host is to mix and mingle with your guests and not slave over a stove in the kitchen. Opt for finger foods that are easy to prepare, or that can be made in advance so you can spend more time with your guests. For ideas of appetizers, you can offer homemade sliders dressed with your favourite toppings. Meatballs are another great option, where you can offer a variety of dipping sauces on the side and toothpicks to make it mess-free and easy to enjoy. Have a charcuterie board, with an array of your favourite cheeses and cured meats, to top it off add on some dried fruits and fresh grapes, topped with flavourful condiments and a mixture of crackers. For the full list of tips and tricks on how to charcuterie, check out The Insider.

In order to create flow throughout your party space, keep the food in a separate area than your drink station. For example, you could display your spread of sweet and salty hor ‘d oeuvres over your dining room table, leaving the kitchen to be a self serve area for festive beverages.

Don’t Forget The Bubbly

While most NYE parties are BYOB, a good host always has a drink station with a selection of drinks, mixes and garnishes. Slice up some lemons, limes and oranges for your guests, have plenty of ice on hand and don’t forget non-alcoholic beverages for those who will not be drinking, such as ginger ale mixed with cranberry juice, this creates a tasty holiday punch for all to enjoy. Having a toast once the clock strikes twelve is a NYE must, and having the perfect bubbly to offer is essential. Prosecco, champagne, and sparkling rosé are all great ideas for a New Year’s Eve toast. A few of our favourite local sparkling wines are; Nova 7, Cuvee Rose, and Champlain Sparkling. Throughout the evening, having both red and white wines are great options for your guests to indulge.

Create A Playlist

This night is about reminiscing on the past year and celebrating everything that has happened. Having the perfect playlist is key to creating the right mood for this year-end event. In the background, play a countdown of Spotify’s top 2018 songs. This will have your guests dancing, and enjoying conversation all night long. When the new year commences, that’s que to play the traditional New Year’s song, Auld Lang Syne, as your guests ring in the new year.

Capturing Memories

What’s a better way to capture year-end memories than with a photo booth? Snap some pictures throughout the evening with the people you love, by incorporating festive props. You can find many cutouts at your local craft store, or find some props around your home. This will definitely keep your guests entertained while creating everlasting moments. Make sure you share the photos online for your friends and family to see and reminisce on what a great night was had. Another way to capture memories is by having guests write down their goals, resolutions and predictions for the new year on a whiteboard and taking a picture.

We hope these ideas have inspired you to throw your own New Year’s Eve party while celebrating with friends and family. At Forest Lakes we are thankful for so much, we cannot wait for what the future holds in 2019 as we continue to grow our stunning community.
