Forest Lakes offers stunning new homes in a welcoming community

Nova Scotia has some of the most beautiful towns and cities in all of Canada. Halifax is the perfect mix of new and old, offering endless Maritime charm and unique, big-city amenities. The South Shore, with Chester, Lunenburg and Mahone Bay, and all of Cape Breton, are full of unparalleled sea and landscapes. And, of course, Nova Scotia’s famed Annapolis Valley, with its thousands of acres of sprawling, world-class vineyards and blossoming apple trees, tops every ‘most beautiful places’ list. Central to all of this is Forest Lakes Country Club, an up-and-coming, resort-style residential community that offers empty-nesters, “snow birds,” young professionals and families the best of all worlds.

Forest Lakes is a community within a community. The 1,700-acre development, when fully completed, will boast more than 2,000 homes, each nestled within beautiful wooded spaces that surround three pristine lakes. With healthy, active living at its forefront, the community offers guests and residents the luxury of enjoying a variety of outdoor activities, including an all-season, multi-purpose trail system, canoeing and kayaking, and plans for a future equestrian centre.

“The community will also have a village centre that will have a variety of shops, services, restaurants and even a farmers’ market. Additionally, we have permission to build up to three hotels as well as a spa and a family entertainment centre that will provide fun for residents and guests of all ages,” says Kathryn Kipper, marketing strategist.

The ‘pièce de résistance’ of Forest Lakes, however, will no-doubt be the custom-designed 18-hole championship golf course. The world-renowned Nicklaus Design team has already finished the 14th and 15th holes in what is poised to become an internationally acclaimed, must-play golf course.

“Forest Lakes is the perfect place to truly live your life to the fullest,” says Joanne Cheevers, marketing director. The development already has approximately 30 homes built or under construction. “But that is only the beginning for this blossoming community.” When finished, the unique, all-encompassing community will eventually be home to almost 7, 000 residents with a wide variety of lifestyles, Cheevers adds.

Over the next quarter century, the number of people between the ages of 55 and 64 is expected to grow by 43 per cent, according to Statistics Canada. In Nova Scotia, seniors are already the fastest growing segment of the population and Forest Lakes is the perfect spot for ‘snowbirds’ or seniors looking to retire. “Our Summerville 1 design is a one-storey, two-bedroom home that has plenty of room to entertain or have guests visit to play the world-class golf course,” says Kipper.

This home features a wonderful open-concept kitchen and dining area that has access to a rear patio, which opens into a spacious great room. The 1,533-square-foot home also boasts a stunning master bedroom that includes expansive windows that not only allow sunlight to pour in, but an endless view of nature all year long. And like most of the homes in Forest Lakes, the Summerville comes with an attached double-car garage.

“We offer maintenance-free, care-free living packages, including snow removal, landscaping, cleaning and even small home repairs, as well as check-in services for those that like to travel for longer periods,” says Kipper.

Nova Scotia also has the highest percentage of younger couples that choose not to have children, and those that are empty-nesters (57.2 per cent), according to Statistics Canada. Forest Lakes offers several home designs to suit these lifestyles, says Cheevers.

“Even with an estimated 7,000 residents calling Forest Lakes home by the time the community is completely built out, it will never lose its charming, back-to-nature feel,” she adds, which also makes Forest Lakes a safe and welcoming community for families.

In 2017, 4,000 new immigrants from places such as China, India and the Philippines chose to call Nova Scotia home. As the province continues to grow, Forest Lakes will offer people a variety of residential options, including two of its Country Collection designs — the Newport and the Graywood. These family centred homes have three bedrooms, a beautiful open-concept design and an attached double car garage, all on a spectacular wooded lots close to many Forest Lakes amenities.

“The Graywood has everything a family could want all on one floor. It has an amazing breakfast bar that is the perfect spot for children to grab a quick bite before school, or to do their homework while watching mom or dad make dinner,” says Kipper. “It also has a wonderful covered back porch that is connected to the indoor dining area, so it is great for barbequing or just relaxing on those warm, summer nights.”

The Newport offers 1,879 square feet of spacious living on two floors. The large entryway and open-concept kitchen, with plenty of storage and counter space, is where families can spend quality time making meals together. “This home has spectacular vaulted ceilings, a propane fireplace and easy access to a natural wooded backyard,” she adds.

All of these homes are located in Forest Lakes’ Woodlands neighbourhood, which is just a short walk to the hiking trails, the Boathouse and the stunning Welcome Lodge which is available for residents’ use. Like many of the homes in the community, these homes support a rain-water harvest system. Unlike many of the new subdivisions in other communities, these homes have buffers of mature trees between neighbouring homes, so residents can enjoy the peaceful, natural environment, while still belonging to a thriving community.

One of the more unique things about Forest Lakes is that residents that travel, or those that are simply looking for a wonderful real estate investment, can enter its ‘rental pool’ in which the developers will find qualified short-term tenants for homeowners. “Once the golf course is finished, Forest Lakes will become the go-to vacation spot for avid golfers and their families. Homeowners will have the option to rent their home out for the season or just a few weeks, making it a very profitable investment,” says Cheevers.
