“Job one is meeting Canadian and international clients’ needs,” says Ralph Bastarache, vice president of sales. It is in response to clients we are now offering a range of smaller homes under 2,000 sq. ft. — designed for those looking to simplify their lives,” he says.

The Martinique is a 1,616 home currently under construction, is nestled in nature at Forest Lakes and is close to many Forest Lakes amenities.

“Residents can now look forward to maintenance-free living, which at Forest Lakes means a package of services including snow removal, landscaping, cleaning and even small home repairs. We put this program in place so our residents can truly enjoy their free time by doing things that matter most in life, like spending time with family and taking advantage of an active lifestyle,” Bastarache adds.

Forest Lakes offers amenities for all to enjoy, no matter the season.

In response to client requests, Forest Lakes will soon be announcing a new neighbourhood offering affordable, maintenance-free condos for the rental market. “We are confident that our condos will attract tourists to our resort and residential community. We are delivering on our vision of building a diverse community that brings global travellers, Canadians and Nova Scotians together,” he says.

As Forest Lakes continues to grow, it is slated to become a significant community in Nova Scotia that features a variety of different homes at price points that fit a wide range of budgets. “I love it [Forest Lakes]. It’s exciting. A community like this is so unique, it offers something for everybody,” says Chuck Porter, MLA of West Hants.

Mr. Porter’s enthusiasm for the project is also shared by municipal officials. “We couldn’t be more excited about Forest Lakes and everything they are bringing to the table in West Hants” says Abraham Zebian, warden of the municipality. “The energy you feel when you visit the development is electric; everyone is moving toward the same goal and we [the municipality] are eager for the future jobs and tourism opportunities this project will bring to our region.”

In the past year, Forest Lakes has pursued its commitment to create an environmentally sound and sustainable community. When building infrastructure and the golf course, Forest Lakes has protected and conserved thousands of trees, and cleaned tens of thousands of tons of soil for reuse on-site. Homes in ‘The Woodlands’ neighbourhood are equipped with rainwater-harvesting systems, and this, combined with several other sustainable practices, makes Forest Lakes a green project from start to finish.

In creating what will undoubtedly become an internationally acclaimed 18-hole golf course, Forest Lakes brought the world-renowned Nicklaus Design brand to Atlantic Canada for the first time.  “Forest Lakes has a great lay of land. There will be a lot of variety in this golf course. The great thing about this property is that it’s different from anything I have ever worked on. The topography is exceptional, which will lend itself to exceptional golf,” says Chris Cochran, senior design associate with Nicklaus Design.

The community has healthy, active living at its forefront and will offer guests and residents the luxury of enjoying a variety of outdoor activities, including an all-season, multi-purpose trail system, canoeing and kayaking and plans for a future equestrian centre. A future Village Centre will be complete with shops and services and even a Farmer’s Market, a spa and a Family Entertainment Centre, which will provide fun for all ages and will be a major draw to the area.

Three unique neighbourhoods have been created, including ‘Eagles Paradise,’ ‘The Woodlands’ and ‘Springview Heights,’ with infrastructure that will accommodate more than 200 residential units. More than 75 per cent of the lots in ‘The Woodlands’ and ‘Springview Heights’ are currently spoken for, where the first families moved in during 2017 and are now living in the community.

Forest Lakes has also welcomed more than 1,000 local, national and international visitors to date, bringing new investment capital to Forest Lakes, creating jobs and contributing to the local economy. Many of these visitors will continue to come back to the province every year and tell their friends and family back home about their extraordinary experiences in Nova Scotia and at Forest Lakes. Forest Lakes expects this momentum to continue for many more years to come.

“Our belief in Forest Lakes, and our commitment to building in Nova Scotia is as strong today as when we started the project,” says Brad Marr, president, Terra Firma Development Corporation. “Developments the size and scope of Forest Lakes require many years to build momentum. From the outset, we’ve said that Forest Lakes would be developed as a unique, quality project, taking decades to become what we want it to be — a five-star, master-planned community.”
