It’s a rare delight to find a destination that combines the indulgence of a vacation with the comfort of home, all year round. At Forest Lakes Country Club, Atlantic Canada’s newest resort-style development located in the heart of West Hants, Nova Scotia, you’ll find a community that turns everyday life into everyday luxury.

Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of visiting Forest Lakes Country Club. From the moment I arrived, I felt right at home. I was greeted at the driveway with outstanding hospitality, then welcomed into the cozy and inviting Welcome Lodge with open arms.

At the Welcome Lodge, I enjoyed fresh lemonade and hors d’oeuvres, warmly presented by their lovely resort concierge, Deb. The team of hosts then began to introduce me to the 1,700+ acre development. They showed me the layout of Forest Lakes Golf Club, the community’s 18-hole Nicklaus Design golf course, the location of their current show homes and The Boathouse, as well as the site of the future Village Centre, with shopping and amenities that I can’t wait to experience. With my handy activities map tucked under my arm, I set out on an adventure to experience my potential life at Forest Lakes.

From the Welcome Lodge, I travelled down Eagle View Drive, the community’s main road, which weaves through the enchanting, wooded countryside. At the first stop on my journey, nestled in the serene and calming backdrop of nature, were their stunning show homes. Each home is splendidly decorated with exquisite attention to detail and beautiful finishes, from floor to ceiling.

As I continued down the road, I found my way to The Edgewater, the community’s newest 12-unit condominium building overlooking Hole #14 of the golf course. The grand, three-story building is still under construction, so I strapped on my hard hat and followed my friendly tour guide through the building. After the tour, I exited The Edgewater and was just steps from a professional golf demonstration on Hole #14. I got to feel like a real pro as I teed off with the latest line of TaylorMade golf clubs.

The lavish presentation of the community was complemented by a round of activities and fun at The Boathouse. Just a stone’s throw from The Edgewater under a canopy of trees, The Boathouse is nestled on the edge of Cochran Lake. A modern take on the old-fashioned cabin by the lake, this amenity is the perfect setting for a picnic or any outdoor fun. After rowing a canoe on the calm waters of the lake, I came back ashore to roast marshmallows over the bonfire, as a local musician strummed his guitar next to the fire.

The community’s PGA-worthy Nicklaus Design golf course is scheduled to have nine holes open for select play as early as next summer, with the full course to be fully playable by 2019. With an exquisite club house and five sets of tee boxes spanning a range of almost 7,500 yards, the Forest Lakes golf course will be a must-see attraction for everyone, not just golf fanatics. The stunning and expertly crafted homes are exceeded only by the friendly faces who inhabit them. With something to offer everyone, Forest Lakes Country Club will soon be an extraordinary community with a superior quality of life.
